WebMay 21, 2024 · A 25" bar is the sweet spot for the 500 IMO. Both saws can run long bars 28" and over. The 500i has the the torque to easily work a bar of that length. Both have the same oiler and they will oil a 36". AV is a little soft on the tank handle side on these saws for long bars IMO. Both saws run great after muff mods. WebThe 500i is an excellent and peppy saw, my only complaint is how quickly it burns through fuel (it goes through a tank faster than my 3120xp, which is considerably larger). I tend to grab the 460 w/ 28” bar over anything else when I’m felling or bucking appropriately sized logs. It’s just personal preference, but I like the 460 better than the 500.

I really like how well it fits … WebJust so you know, the 500i and the efi isn’t brand new to Stihl. They have been running that engine and EFI in concrete chops saws since 2016-ish. They have worked out all the potential bugs. As for your cutting question, strictly felling of those trees, the 500i all day.
WebMay 2, 2024 · The 500i reportedly underperforms the 661 by just a bit, bit the power to weight ratio is supposed to be incredible, which points to it being a great climbing saw.
